MATH MULTIPLICATION TUTORS MANHATTAN, NYC
Instruction Type: Private or Pods. Online.
Recommended for: Students entering grades 3-6.
Multiplication is no longer just about stacking numbers and using the standard algorithm. When students have an in-depth understanding of the relationships between digits and place values, they can discover many ways to multiply numbers.
This course is for students who need to build fluency with multiplication strategies and who have a hard time double-checking their work or verifying for reasonability. In this course, we will explore multiple methods for multiplying such as using the array model, using multiple equations, the standard algorithm, and repeated addition.
We’ll also explore and discuss the ways in which each strategy is similar or different and students will be encouraged to draw connections and use more efficient and sophisticated strategies as they progress throughout the course. This course focuses on whole numbers but can be customized to address mixed fractions and decimals.
Some of the elementary math lessons that our math multiplication tutoring covers include:
- mastering multiplication facts
- identifying and using the inverse operation for multiplication (multiplication and division)
- multiplying one-digit and multi-digit numbers with and without regrouping
- identifying the associative, commutative, identity, and zero properties of multiplication
- using a calculator to multiply multi-digit numbers
- multiplying with zeros and by multiples of 10 and 100
- and many more!

The Importance of Mastering Multiplication
Multiplication is a fundamental tool in many areas of mathematics, including algebra, calculus, equations, and more. Students become more confident in tackling more complicated math content once they have mastered the concepts of multiplication.
Learning multiplication becomes even more important as a child moves up from one grade level to the next. Mastering multiplication helps students:
Build confidence in math
Being able to perform and solve multiplication problems with ease and confidence bolster the student’s confidence in math.
Master long multiplication and division
Math builds upon the concepts that students learn as they progress through school. This is why it’s important for a student to have full grasp of fundamental math concepts and operations.
Gain better number sense
Math requires a strong number sense, and the skills involved in multiplication reinforces its development in children.
Improve problem-solving skills
Math problems become increasingly complex as students move up in school. Mastering multiplication and other basic math operations allows students to focus on the more complicated aspects of a math problem and accomplish the task in lesser time.
OUR COACH TATIANA
Tatiana is a certified teacher with over 7 years of experience in NYC schools. She graduated with honors from the University of Notre Dame and is a Teach for America alumna. During her time as a TFA corps member, she completed a Masters in Teaching from the Relay Graduate School of Education and holds a Professional Certificate in Childhood Education (grades 1-6).
Tatiana specializes in inquiry-based learning and constructivist teaching methods. She implements Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and Visual, Auditory, Kinesthetic, and Tactile (VAKT) strategies in her lesson plans. She uses a Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI) approach to teaching math that is rigorous and individualized to each student. Tatiana will incorporate various multi-sensory techniques, including the use of manipulatives, to develop conceptual understanding. She firmly believes that successful math instruction happens when teachers build on students’ innate number sense and curiosity, making math fun and accessible to all learners.
She currently works as an educational consultant for an ed-tech company specializing in virtual assessment and instruction. She coaches teachers and leaders on using data to drive instruction and best practices for effective differentiation, both in school and remotely. Prior to this, she taught 3rd-5th grade on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, then in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn.
Tatiana has extensive experience with test prep material and is deeply familiar with New York State Standards, having had 100% of her students pass the NY State Math Test for four consecutive years, exceeding the statewide average by over 60%.
