Searching for a Westchester County Wilson Tutor?

Our Westchester County Wilson Tutor Travels to Your Westchester County Home:
Clarkstown Orangetown Ramapo

The Orton-Gillingham approach is used in the Wilson Reading System, a type of reading instruction. It is intended to assist students who are falling behind their peers in word decoding and children and adults with language-based learning disabilities. It is commonly used with elementary, middle, and high school students. Wilson Fundations is for students in kindergarten (k) through third grade.

The Wilson Reading System builds skills in a specific order over time. WRS students receive instruction in the following areas, according to Wilson Language Training:

  • Word structure for automatic decoding and spelling
  • High-frequency word recognition and spelling, including irregular words
  • Sentence-level text reading with ease, expression, and comprehension
  • Comprehending age-appropriate narrative and informational text
  • Reading comprehension with increasing levels of difficulty in narrative and expository text
  • Text structures for narrative and informational purposes
  • Information organization for oral or written expression
  • Proofreading abilities
  • Word recognition accuracy and comprehension self-monitoring

Wilson Reading System, like other Orton-Gillingham-inspired programs, employs a multi-sensory approach. It teaches the structure of the English language directly and systematically. Students learn to connect sounds and words using their visual, auditory, kinesthetic (movement), and tactile senses. WRS, on the other hand, employs more direct learning materials, such as concrete pictures, to assist students in focusing on decoding words without relying on visual cues.

This tutor will significantly impact your child’s life, so finding the right match is critical!

Instead of simply saying, “because that’s the way it is,” our Westchester County Wilson tutor will assist a student in recognizing some of these patterns.
